The maternal grandmother’s line, and the one that runs back deepest into England. Attie’s grandmother Anna Susanna Margrietha Fuller was born on 14 June at Jacobsdal in the Orange Free State — exactly fifty years before Attie’s own birthday, the same date and month. She married Johan Wilhelm Albertus van Zyl in 1945.

Climbing up: her parents George Humphrey Fuller × Johanna Jacomina Elizabeth Smith → Charles Henry Fuller (1854–1935) × Emily Maria Frost (1855–1915). At this generation the Fuller and Frost surnames first share a household.

The Fuller line then runs to Charles Henry Fuller (1828–1872) × Susan Braedon — and dead-ends here: his profile carries only two sources, no parents, and the England-born immigrant Fuller above him has never been established. Open thread.

The Frost line continues further and better. William Doughty Frost (1813–1887) × Susanna Magdalena Terblanche (an early Frost / Terblanche blend in the 1840s) — then up to Philip Frost, the English-settler progenitor: christened at Bodham, Norfolk on 25 February 1787; died at Port Elizabeth on 15 January 1867; buried Coega. Twenty-eight sources, nineteen memories on his FamilySearch profile — the most heavily attested individual anywhere on the maternal side. He is the firmest single ancestor on this branch of the family.
