Attie’s maternal great-great-great-grandmother — a van Zyl, married into the Janse van Rensburg family at Riversdal on 29 September 1868. She is the source of the Sophia Wilhelmina Jacoba Christian-name block that carries down two generations to her granddaughter, Sophia Wilhelmina Jacoba van Niekerk (1890), Attie’s own maternal-side grandmother.
Note the branch’s coincidence: her granddaughter, carrying her name, later married another van Zyl — Jacobus Lodewyk. Two independent van Zyl lines in one couple.
