Gen 6 of the paternal spine. Named on his father’s 1843 Death Notice as one of three minor heirs — so confirmed at infancy by the same primary document that confirms his parents. He was six years old when his father died at the farm Windhoek.
He is the elder of the two Andries Johannes Retiefs in succession (Gen 6 → Gen 7) — the beginning of the three-in-a-row pattern that runs through Gens 5–7.
Threads that mention Andries Johannes Retief
- One piece of paper that names three generations
The 1843 Death Notice of Andries Johannes Retief — a single sheet at the Master's office that anchors Gen 4, 5 and 6 at once, and confirms the farm name Windhoek from the clerk's own hand.
- The recurring names — three and three
Two stretches where the same name carries straight down three generations. Andries Johannes at Gen 5–6–7; Adriaan Albertus at Gen 8–9–10. Six men, two names, six consecutive generations.
- Survival at Windhoek
Andries Johannes Retief (Gen 5) died at twenty-five. His son and namesake was six when the estate was inventoried. The whole line continues only because the boy — and his sister — survived 1843.
